Ready for your
next handoff.
Install Secret Handoff on the computer where your agent runs.
Connect your agent
Open a new terminal after installation, then connect your MCP client. No Go installation or administrator access needed.
Claude Code & Codex
For Claude Code:
claude mcp add --scope user secrethandoff -- secrethandoff mcpFor Codex:
codex mcp add secrethandoff -- secrethandoff mcpRun the command for your client, then start a new agent session. If Secret Handoff is already connected through a plugin, keep that connection instead of adding a second server.
Claude Code and Codex plugins with skills and hooks are available now. Run secrethandoff setup to install them, or keep your existing MCP connection.
Cursor, Cline & other MCP clients
Install the binary first. For clients that use an mcpServers configuration, add:
{
"mcpServers": {
"secrethandoff": {
"command": "secrethandoff",
"args": ["mcp"]
}
}
}VS Code uses a servers key instead of mcpServers. OpenCode uses a local command array. Use your client's MCP settings to run secrethandoff mcp over stdio.
A skill provides guidance; it still needs the binary and an MCP connection.
Project guidance and troubleshooting
Run secrethandoff doctor to check the installation. Optionally run secrethandoff init in a project to add agent guidance. Desktop apps may need a full restart to pick up PATH changes; a manually configured MCP client can use the binary’s absolute path.
